A word about the name: Emmett Walker is a nom de plume. The man behind it would rather you meet the words than the writer. Besides, on a slow walk home, it's the road that matters — not who's walking it.

I almost put my real name on this blog. I thought about it for a while. I've always been big on authenticity. Say what you mean, mean what you say, and don't hide behind anything. So a pen name felt a little like hiding. Like I was going against something I believe in. I've also always tried not to act on emotion alone. I'm the guy who considers the other side. Every time. I'll argue with myself before I argue with you, and most of the time I'll find a way to see where you're coming from. That's a good thing, I think. People count on that from me. But somewhere along the way I realized I have feelings too. And opinions. Not the careful, considered ones I share in public. The other ones. The ones that show up at night or in the car. I don't always say them out loud because of who I am to the people around me, and that's ok. That's part of the job, and part of being a dad. So where do those go? I guess they go here.
